20 Years Films for Human Rights

Seit 2015 feiert das MOVE IT! Filmfestival mit dem „Filmpreis für Menschenrechte“ Filme, die Haltung zeigen – Werke, die Menschenrechte nicht nur thematisieren, sondern spürbar machen.

Die Festivaljury wählt dabei einen Beitrag aus, der nicht nur filmisch überzeugt, sondern auch durch das Engagement der Regisseur*in heraussticht. Der mit 5.000 Euro dotierte Preis wurde auch in diesem Jahr von der Sächsischen Staatskanzlei gestiftet.

Der 10. MOVE IT! Filmpreis für Menschenrechte geht an die iranische Filmemacherin Farahnaz Sharifi für ihren Dokumentarfilm MY STOLEN PLANET.

In ihrer Laudatio zeigte sich die Jury beeindruckt, „wie die Filmemacherin ihre eigene Geschichte mit der Geschichte der islamischen Revolution im Iran und der damit einhergehenden systematischen Unterdrückung von Frauenrechten verknüpft und wie sie zugleich die Kraft des Widerstandes gegen die Repression und Gewalt feiert.“

FARAHNAZ SHARIFI ist vieles – Filmemacherin, Autorin, Editorin – und eine starke Stimme aus dem Iran. Sie hat Film an der Uni Teheran studiert, heute lebt sie im Exil in Deutschland. Was ihre Arbeiten besonders macht? Archivmaterial wird bei ihr zur Leinwand für Emotionen, Geschichte und Widerstand. Für ihre Arbeit an RADIOGRAPH OF A FAMILY wurde sie 2020 beim renommierten IDFA in Amsterdam gleich mit zwei Preisen ausgezeichnet – für den besten Schnitt und für den kreativsten Umgang mit Archivaufnahmen.

Ihre Regiearbeit REVOLUTIONARY MEMORIES OF BAHMAN WHO LOVED LEILA erhielt beim Uppsala Short Film Festival den Preis als bester Kurzfilm. MY STOLEN PLANET ist ihr erster langer Dokumentarfilm, den sie geschrieben, gedreht, inszeniert und geschnitten hat.

Since 2015, the MOVE IT! Film Festival has been celebrating films that show attitude with the “Film Prize for Human Rights” – works that not only address human rights, but make them tangible.

The festival jury selects an entry that is not only convincing in cinematic terms, but also stands out due to the director’s commitment. The prize, which is endowed with 5,000 euros, was once again donated by the Saxon State Chancellery this year.

The 10th MOVE IT! Film Prize for Human Rights goes to Iranian filmmaker Farahnaz Sharifi for her documentary MY STOLEN PLANET.

In its laudatory speech, the jury was impressed by “how the filmmaker links her own story with the history of the Islamic revolution in Iran and the systematic suppression of women’s rights that accompanied it, while at the same time celebrating the power of resistance against repression and violence.”

FARAHNAZ SHARIFI is many things – filmmaker, author, editor – and a strong voice from Iran. She studied film at the University of Tehran and now lives in exile in Germany. What makes her work special? She turns archive material into a canvas for emotions, history and resistance. For her work on RADIOGRAPH OF A FAMILY, she was awarded two prizes at the renowned IDFA in Amsterdam in 2020 – for best editing and for the most creative use of archive footage.

Her directorial work REVOLUTIONARY MEMORIES OF BAHMAN WHO LOVED LEILA was awarded as best short film at the Uppsala Short Film Festival. MY STOLEN PLANET is her first feature-length documentary, which she wrote, shot, directed and edited.
