In Anabel Rodríguez Ríos‘ haunting documentary the village of Congo Mirador on Lake Maracaibo reflects the embodiment of an entire nation that is plagued by corruption, environmental pollution and rampant inflation. At the center of the village’s existential struggle for survival are two female leaders – Ms. Tamara, the coordinator of the village’s Chávez government, and Natalie, a singing teacher and opponent of Ms. Tamara and her state-approved practices of bribery and intimidation.
